Vice Mayor Wilford served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Central Florida Community Action Agency (CFCAA), Inc., between 2006 and 2013. During his 27-year career as a CEO including his stent at CFCAA, he routinely took an innovative leadership role in engaging public, private, nonprofit, educational, and faith-based entities in various economic development activities.
As well as being a city commission alternate to the Alachua League of Cities, Vice Mayor Wilford serves as the city commission’s liaison to the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council. He has also attended basic and advanced leadership courses under the auspices of the Florida League of Cities’ Institute for Elected Municipal Officials.
In addition to Vice Mayor Wilford being acclaimed as the 2008 “Advocate of the Year” by the East Gainesville Development Corporation, CFCAA was recognized as the “Agency of the Year” in 2008 by both the Florida Association for Community Action (FACA) and Southeastern Association of Community Action Agencies which is comprised of eight Southern states. He is a member of the Alachua Chamber of Commerce and a former member of numerous boards of directors including FACA, the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association, Arkansas Community Action Agencies Association, and Community Action Association of Region VI representing Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas. Additionally, he was a former school board member for an elementary parochial school in Jonesboro, Arkansas and he recently authored a book entitled "Wear a Collar, Rape a Child: Mother Church and the Conspiracy of Indifference," which was published in May 2015.
Vice Mayor Wilford is a U.S. Navy Vietnam-era Veteran who completed a distinguished 20-year career in 1983. He is currently a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America (Gainesville Chapter), Marine Corps League (Gator Chapter), Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association, and U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve Association. Due to his philanthropic and volunteer efforts, he also holds the distinction as a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International.
Vice Mayor Wilford is a native Floridian who has been married to Diane since December 31, 1970. Their son, Scott, daughter-in-law, Virginia, and granddaughters, Natalie and Caroline, reside in Nashville, Tennessee.
OFFICE HOURS: Vice Mayor Wilford holds office hours before regular city commission meetings between 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. for residents to meet with him. Residents should call the city manager’s office at 386-418-6101 to schedule an appointment. Arrangements for different times will be made.
