Nature Trails in Alachua
The San Felasco Conservation Corridor - >Alachua Phase is approximate 24-acre wildlife, greenway and recreation corridor located in northwest Alachua County adjacent to Progress Corporate Park and San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park,· Entrance to the site is by way of NW 126th Terrace.· The project site is operated by the City of Alachua and was acquired in 2004 with funding from the Florida Communities Trust Program and includes parcels by support from the University of Florida Foundation (UFF), Innovation Partners, Ltd, and the Foundation for Environment Research (FER).
Site development began in 2010 with financial support from the Florida Recreation Development & Assistance Program (FRDAP), and the Alachua County Recreation Surtax, also known as the Wild Spaces, Public Places initiative.· Existing improvements include a single-use hiking trail approximately one mile in length, a babe ruth baseball field with stands, a restroom/concession facility, a scenic pond overlook, and bike rack.
Planned improvements during the next year include a playground near the baseball field and picnic pavilion adjacent to one of two legacy live oaks located along the trail. Other improvements to begin in 2011 and be completed in 2012 will include interpretive signage, a trail-head kiosk, native restoration and landscaping.
