The Criminal Investigation Department is responsible for the follow-up investigation of crimes committed against persons or property in the City of Alachua, which require a degree of specialization or a centralized investigative approach. All major criminal investigations that are undertaken by the Alachua Police Department are conducted by investigators assigned to this unit. The investigators are dedicated to investigating these crimes, collecting evidence, identifying perpetrators and preparing cases for successful prosecution.

Homicide, crimes against children, robbery, arson, auto theft, fraud, exploitation and burglary are among the many categories of crimes investigated by detectives.
